Morning meditation routine
I would like to share a simple morning meditation routine that has helped me achieve a better mindset at the start of the day. It only take a few minutes and can help improve your awareness of the present moment and increase your feeling of gratitude which is always useful.
When you wake from your sleep, stay in bed and lie on your back, legs a little over shoulder width apart and your arms by your sides with your palms facing up. Be conscious of your breathing and take four nice, big, slow, deep breaths. Focus on your breathing for a moment. Feel your lungs filling with air and your chest expanding and then contracting again as the air vacates your body.
Next focus on your heartbeat and feel the rhythm it creates, as it gently pumps blood around your body. Then focus on that blood being pumped around your body, moving through your core and then to your extremities. Feel that life force flowing through you and be thankful that your body does this for you every moment of the day without you having to think about it.
Finally focus on the millions of processes that are happening in your body at the cellular level. At this stage you may start to feel a tingling sensation in your fingers and toes that moves across your entire body. Really feel your body as a whole at this point and be thankful that you have it and that you are able to feel such sensations.
Hopefully this will have given you a small appreciation boost to put you in a good place to start your morning and also relax you - but not to the point you want to fall back asleep! If this is the case maybe reserve this meditation for a weekend or a day off! Try it out, adapt it and see how just a few minutes can change the trajectory of your day.
